SUDDENLY

This is killing me. Killing me to death.
jozif has really upped his game for his new EP on Agoria's label Infiné:
jozif - Suddenly Somethin'
Whilst Corinne via On The Prowl brings some MAD retro acid jams on Tonight and Dream a Little Dream (Midnight Magic Remix)

Friday 17 December 2010

MIMA

Dorisburg - Mima from Margaret Dygas' excellent FACT Mix is too lovely for words.

Tuesday 14 December 2010

WHIP IT

So much funk: Picture House edit - Let It Whip
Songs like this make me wish I was born 10 years earlier, spandex aside.

Monday 13 December 2010

ME AND YOU

A good mag: I Love You
A good song: Francis Inferno Orchestra - Me and You

LE VELOUR

Mr Shonky does it again with his gorgeous new EP Le Velour on Real Tone.

Considering the Urban Dictionary definition of 'shonky' is "a compound word from the two terms 'shocking' and 'wonky' meaning that something is so bad or precarious that it is actually shocking" - This is pretty amazing.

I CAN HEAR YOU ARTHUR

Having WAY too much fun compiling the RA poll. Reminds me SONG OF THE YEAR: Lee Curtiss - I Can Hear You Arthur much? Steel drums galore.  Supplement Facts how I love you.

Tuesday 23 November 2010

LOVEBIRDS

The redeeming thing about London and its 6 degrees after reliving summer this November in Hong Kong is an internet connection:
Lovebirds - Love & Happiness to warm me up again.

Wednesday 3 November 2010

DELUSIONS

Pretty mad at Solomun right now.
He obvs stole my idea and sampled 'I Keep Forgettin' (that Warren G also got to before me). SOMEONE HELP ME FINISH SONGS PLS.

Also liking Session Victim - Time To Let You Down on Delusions of Grandeur in Solomun & Lee Curtiss' podcast. It's even got Geddes in it, what more could you want. (jk)

Tuesday 26 October 2010

IL FRAGILE

Alessandro Izzo - Il Sogno del Salotto
Such a jam from the smooth Italian on Mathematics. However, it may be vinyl only in which case I will be weeping in a corner of Phonica.

Tuesday 19 October 2010

STAR

Well cheesy deep house with proper R'n'B vox by someone who gathering from their myspace may well be a 14 year old LARPer which makes it that much more exciting.

Tuesday 5 October 2010

DRY RETCH

Getting an e-mail from Phil Collins' ex-bandmate asking for a 'rockumentary' has made me want to dry retch a bit this morning. The beautiful beat-less track by Donnacha Costello however, has not. Give it a shot.

Donnacha Costello -  Dry Retch

Thursday 30 September 2010

IRIDIUM

Lullabies in the Dark - Iridium (Superpitcher Remix)
Forgot how amazing this track is, clicking percs, piano stabs, guitar solo and all. Also forgot that it was on Permanent Vacation...

Wednesday 29 September 2010

FEELING SAD

Nick Holder - Feelin' Sad
More dreamy deep house from the Canadian producer with a languid sax line and soft vocal samples.

Wednesday 22 September 2010

INTERNATIONAL FEEL

Rocha - Feel the Love (Greg Wilson Version) on International Feel is a keeper. Soft pianos, soothing synths and old school house beats.

Monday 6 September 2010

STORY #4

Its status as 'anonymous' / 'untitled' of course made it all the more intriguing. Haunting deep house with a gloriously unexpected intro.

Tuesday 24 August 2010

STAY IN LOVE

One of my most favourite Nico edits, the swinging Stay in Love (Nicolas Jaar edit)
If you haven't heard this before stick till midway at least - bangin' vocals from the original Love Potion No 9.

Sunday 22 August 2010

AUGUST

So summer has pretty much ended in mid-August. CHEERS England. Some photos from the last of my beach times in Alghero taken with a Boots disposable. And a gorgeous song from the Hivern A L'Estiu Vol 2. Comp.

Thursday 19 August 2010

LOVE FEVER

Holy moly Brooklyn's Jacques Renault and Gadi Mizrahi from Wolf +/Or Lamb are playing this Saturday in a secret dingy hole in Dalston. We've got a fever and the only cure is more funky edits with a kickdrum on it.

Wednesday 18 August 2010

U GOT ME

Incredibly groovy and equally girly Ibiza Voice mix from Lee Foss
Oh the joy.

Wednesday 11 August 2010

BEAM ME UP

Ah the rest of the remix package is equally nice but there's nobody better at finely crafting disco epics than Monsieur Renault.

Tuesday 10 August 2010

Loving You

LOVING YOU demo tony lionni by tony lionni

Very catchy. If you don't mind the rave.

Tuesday 3 August 2010

Off Summer

If you like flip flops and Hawaiian shirts, you'll love Picture House' floaty Balearic remix of Crystal Fighters' In The Summer.

I can't believe I'm posting a Crystal Fighters song - total pansys, but this remix makes you forget it's even them innit.

Monday 26 July 2010

Off Beat

So of course just as I left the T Bar Closing Party at Scrutton Sweaty Street, Soul Clap decided to play Extravaganza and everyone had an amazing life-changing singalong session and then I died.

To celebrate and recuperate, here's the gorgeous podcast for Hybridlife by Maayan Nidam. It's even got that horribly out of time x acid track, all my favourite things: Oracy - Bass Mood (via Pablo Funkism). So painful.

Wednesday 21 July 2010

Lulz

Parisian deep house producer D'julz's latest Podcast, featuring the likes of Martinez, Omar S & Alex Picone.
Second track in goes berserk. Lovely.

Friday 16 July 2010

Wednesday 7 July 2010

R & S the Best

Pariah - Prism (96)

After getting lol'ed at for liking the cheesy vocals in Pariah's Orpheus, now everyone's hyped about the niceness from the album Safehouses.
Yeah.

Monday 5 July 2010

No Fun Without You

When I first started seeing 'Off Key Hat' remixes about I just assumed it was the outcome of more off key hi-hats in tracks becoming a prevalent trend. This is much better.

Friday 25 June 2010

Loving You Was My Mistake

So the lovely Mr My Panda Shall Fly remixes Josh Pirate 'RAVER4LYFE' Soundsystem's new track.
Expect gated synths and epic breakdowns.

Wednesday 23 June 2010

3rd Strike

Following Erdbeerschnitzel loving, Under The Shade imprint 3rd Strike release the super smooth Homepark EP (soundcloud) as Slutty Tony Fringe ranted about.

Overlooking the remix from Hamburg-based label Mirau's Iron Curtis, fav pick has to be Alternity for epic bongo-laced deep house.

Friday 18 June 2010

Dallas

As featured in Zev's Live at Sunset Mix:
Ost & Kjex - Have You Seen the Moon In Dallas? (Maurice Fulton Remix)

Amazingly floaty piece from the guys with a penchant for cheese sampling.

Tuesday 15 June 2010

RA Antwerp

So forward-thinking let's just call it 'Avantwerp' fashion.
Pilotto, Ackermann, oh how I love you.

Understand This - Jet Project [Get Physical]

A Piece of History - CPR (supergroup Crosson, Patrick, and Reeves)

Monday 14 June 2010

Won't You Show Me All Of The Galaxy

As featured in Soul Clap's Phonica DJ Chart, Space Dimension Controller's The Love Quadrant is literally a work of genius. At only 19 hailing from somewhere dingy like Belfast, this harks back to a time of Steves in Bromley & his equally epic Journey to the Core of the Unknown comes complete w/ Kyle Hall remix.

To sum up this track perfectly:
"You know this song was made by a man - A woman could not have made this... because a woman can never understand love, like a man does... And that is essentially, what this song is about". Thomas P Ensom

Friday 11 June 2010

OPN

So usually if someone asks do you want to listen to some psychedelic IDM you'd say leave me alone you fucking hippie, but Oneohtrix Point Never is making it a bit interesting. Soaring off-key synths and layered bleeps make for an emotive ride.

Oneohtrix Point Never - Laser to Laser

4 Months

Erdbeerschnitzel's 4 Months has been out a while now but in case you've slept on it, listen now:
4 Months by erdbeerschnitzel
And forget about the Mark E Edit, it's all about the Original here.

And I've been playing this one out a bit too:
Solomun & Stimming - Eiszauber (Motorcitysoul Remix)

Wednesday 26 May 2010

Handbags

So I think it's safe to say I've never been afraid of handbags until Lynch directed a Dior advert.
Watching AnOther Mag coverstar Cotillard going a bit berserk in Shanghai left me curled up in a ball, wanting a Lady Dior cannage handbag and feeling like a right moby dick. Amazing.

P.s Sigha re-'imagines' the Echologist's (Brendon Moeller innit) Slow Burn.
And featuring insightful lyrics everyone can relate to 'You Can't Hide Your Love' is a pop-tastic blast from the past from DMX Krew, blates a genius.

Tuesday 18 May 2010

For the Last Day...

I've been non-stop listening (well at 15 minutes a pop, repeats pretty much fill up a day) to the beautifully lush SIS remix of Hector. This track will make you exceedingly happy. A lighter version of the bouncy 90s house route as Hector likes to take.

Tuesday 11 May 2010

Call Me

Now in chill out mode:
From the new Future Disco album City Heat via Sean Brosnan,
Ilija Rudman x Greg Wilson on Call Me Tonight.

After a night of bin bags and Bad Rabbits, I'm urgently looking forward to Le Loup at T Bar next week, hoping he'll out-do his amazing set that time I was sober for Resident Advisor at Dalston Superstore -
Though he's up against Crosstown Rebels at Fabric w/ Jamie Jones, Damian Lazarus, Deniz Kurtel & Dyed Soundorom. DEAR GOD.

Wednesday 5 May 2010

Document

The last time I heard this out was at 11 bloody AM in the morning in a dark pit of techno in South London that they call CABLE.

Konrad Black was on (who's apparently not as good as me) (Yeah that's right, TODD) and we had been subjected to staying awake during 3 million hours of Geddes since Mulletover the night before.

Life Lessons - Lee Curtiss (taken from the Document EP on Spectral curated by Ryan Elliott as if you didn't know by now) Super dark, solid release.

Monday 26 April 2010

Look At You

Am I the only person on the planet who saw Dogtooth (Kynodontas) over the weekend and didn't curl up in a ball of Lynch-esque fear? Very, very good.

And so is this:
My Woman - Eddie C (PBR Remix) on Wolf Music

Tuesday 20 April 2010

Bad Rabbits

Oh my god this is so suave it makes me blush just listening to it.
W+L bringing back 90s r'n'b jams via deep house:
She's Bad (Gadi Mizrahi & Soul Clap Remix) - Bad Rabbits

Sunday 18 April 2010

Room With a View

After their Atjazz remix, Dairmount & Berardi took on Andre Lodemann's Dark Edge on the lovely Room With a View Records:

André Lodemann / Dark Edge / Dairmount & Berardi Dub by Room With a View
Warm fuzzy deepness.

Wednesday 14 April 2010

The Glow

Did anyone else lol at Lee Curtiss's The Glow edit using the same sample as in Janet Jackson's All For You?

Actual genius. B: Lee Curtiss - The Glow - Cityfox Ltd 01 (extract) by teclectic

Baker Man

Oh my two favourite things combined. Soul Clap and BAKING.
